[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Today we celebrate the planet and all her inhabitants. In 1970, on the inaugural Earth Day, over 20 million Americans participated uniting for a common cause.  Within a few short years, the United States had created the Environmental Protection Agency, and Congress had passed the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts.

Today, we’re confronting a pandemic – serving as a reminder that our ability to get and stay well, to protect our families from harm, and to forge a better future requires that all of us can access the care that we need – especially the most vulnerable among us.

Your individual actions can make a difference. You don’t have to take to the streets this Earth Day. You don’t have to leave your home. But you can still unite—over social media, text, video chat—to work for a healthier planet. Join us – and thousands of others across the United States – for Earth Day Live! a virtual celebration featuring performances by your favorite artists, discussions from activists and leaders around the nation, and local livestreams to plug into Houston actions!

Earlier today – Mayor Turner released the Houston Climate Action Plan, which will serve as a broad framework to address climate change for the City of Houston. This plan compliments the Houston Resilient Plan, released earlier this year. While this plan marks an important first step, its critical that our leaders implement these actions in a way that furthers equity for all – reflecting our shared values of resilience and fairness.

As we continue our fight for clean water, productive wetlands, and healthy communities, we know that solving global crises like climate change take all of us working together in coalition. We’re proud to stand in partnership with the Coalition for Environment, Equity, and Resilience and with our friends at the Sunrise Movement as we celebrate the history of Earth Day and the promise of what we can achieve together.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”60px”][vc_btn title=”Donate” color=”success” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fbayoucitywaterkeeper.org%2Fdonate|title:Donate|target:%20_blank|”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
