πŸ“… Date: November 20
⏰ Time: 5:30 PM CST
πŸ“ Location: UT Visual Arts Center, Austin

Join us at the UT Visual Arts Center for an in-person panel discussion in connection with Fred Schmidt-Arenales’ film on the Ike Dike, part of the exhibition IT IS A GOOD PROJECT AND SHOULD BE BUILT. Renowned experts in environmental engineering, law, and public policy, including Senior Legal Director Kristen Schlemmer of Bayou City Waterkeeper and former BCWK artist-in-residence Fred Schmidt-Arenales, will delve into the pressing ecological, economic, and political challenges facing coastal communities in Texas and beyond due to increasing superstorms and sea level rise.

Featured Panelists:

  • Kristen Schlemmer, Senior Legal Director, Bayou City Waterkeeper
  • Fred Schmidt-Arenales, Filmmaker and former BCWK Artist-in-Residence
  • Clint Dawson, Professor, UT
  • Katherine Lieberknecht, Assistant Professor, UT

Following the panel, UT Theatre and Dance students will perform Song for Mr. Death, an original satirical score by Jacob Brunner that critiques the bureaucratic language used to justify superstorm infrastructure projects.

Presented with support from Planet Texas 2050 – A UT Grand Challenge.
