Sometimes when you’re charting an uphill course it’s easy to forget to look back and see how far you’ve come. Earlier this year, amid a firestorm of federal actions, we took the time to pull together a snapshot of the last year at Bayou City Waterkeeper—and it was just the kind of reminder we needed to affirm how critical our work is. I’m sharing this with you, our supporters and collaborators in celebration of the wins we’ve had together—because who doesn’t need something to celebrate.
This year was a time of scaling up and grounding our work. We invested in the infrastructure, relationships, and tools needed to pivot, influence, and enact meaningful change. From creating value-aligned legal power to increasing community education and regional policy capacity, we laid the groundwork for a more equitable and resilient watershed.
Bayou City Waterkeeper is positioned better than ever to take bold action and leverage the progress made in 2024 to address systemic water issues at every level. With a focus on justice, conservation, and community power, we are moving and adapting to creatively meet the challenges of today head-on.
This work reaffirms the organization’s role as a vital bridge between communities and policymakers, ensuring that water justice remains a catalyst of resilience and equity in the years to come.
