Wetland Mapper
About the Wetlands Mapper
The Wetlands Mapper provides an easy-to-use view of wetlands, waterways, and deepwater habitats across the Lower Galveston Bay Watershed. The mapper can help residents, researchers, advocates, and decision-makers better understand where wetlands may be present and why they matter. BCWK uses wetland data like this to support research, public education, community advocacy, and efforts to protect wetlands across the Lower Galveston Bay Watershed.
An Important Note About the Data
The mapper identifies wetlands using a biological definition based on their environmental characteristics. It is a useful starting point, but it does not determine whether a wetland is legally protected or establish the boundaries of federal, state, or local regulatory authority. Site-specific review may be needed to determine whether a wetland falls under the Clean Water Act or other regulations.
