Communications Manager

Michael McFadden is the Communications Manager at Bayou City Waterkeeper. His work focuses on storytelling, public engagement, and connecting environmental advocacy to the cultural and civic life of the region. Drawing from more than 12 years as an arts writer and cultural worker, Michael brings an interdisciplinary approach to communications rooted in collaboration, accessibility, and place-based storytelling.

Michael’s approach to communications is deeply informed by his work with Project Row Houses and other arts organizations that operate at the intersection of culture, neighborhood engagement, and social impact. He is also a member of Flak Magazine, and his criticism and cultural writing have appeared in publications including Arts+Culture Texas, The Brooklyn Rail, Glasstire, and Houstonia.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from The University of Texas at San Antonio and a Master of Arts in Arts Leadership from the University of Houston. As a native of the Houston area, Michael is committed to supporting organizations and initiatives that invest in the long-term health, resilience, and cultural vitality of the communities that shape the region.
