Recent record-breaking natural disasters, including Hurricanes Beryl and Helene and the Los Angeles wildfires, have highlighted the urgent need for artists and creative practitioners to engage with the climate crisis and consider disaster preparedness.
This panel discussion, held in conjunction with the Moody Center for the Art’s exhibition “Breath(e): Toward Climate and Social Justice,” brings together artists and professionals from Houston and the Gulf Coast region whose work directly responds to the challenges of climate change and environmental justice.
Artadia and the Moody Center for the Arts are thrilled to hold this panel discussion with Ayanna Jolivet Mccloud, Artist, writer, and Executive Director of Bayou City Waterkeeper; Anna Mayer, Artist and Associate Professor, School of Art, University of Houston, and 2024 Houston Artadia Awardee; and Eric Schnell,Artist and Director, Galveston Artist Residency. This panel will be moderated by Frauke V. Josenhans, Curator, Moody Center for the Arts at Rice University.
